Help

Hello, I'm new to this....I'm an alcoholic and ready to stop but I don't know how. I have high blood pressure and looking back....maybe it started with my drinking! I'm 30 yrs old, I'm scared!! I've tried to research "how to deal with withdrawals" but what the websites say, scares me! I need help, I'm afraid to tell my family but I'm tired of it! I don't know what to do!

Welcome to SR,and congratulations on your decision to live a sober life!

If you are concerned about withdrawals you should see a doctor.

There are often free resources in many states and communities. Congrats on making the decision to stop!

Hi Lisa - welcome

The very best thing is to see your Dr - I know thats scary but it's the best option and it's way better than perhaps running into trouble yourself alone and without proper medical supervision.

There are a lot of free or low cost clinics around - if there's one in your local area you might get some medical advice there?

Free Clinics - NeedyMeds
The 10377 clinics in this database are free, low cost, low cost with a sliding scale based on income, or offer some type of financial assistance.

Hi Lisa, I hope you'll heed Dee's advice and go and see your doctor. I was treated for high blood pressure from 37, I'm 58 now and my blood pressure medication is now a quarter of what it was. Last year I stopped drinking, my bp tumbled and now I'm in fabulous health. You can do it too, you really can.

Welcome Lisa, don't let not having insurance stop you from turning your life around, find a clinic, pay what you can, even if it's the amount you spent on booze, this is your support group, welcome aboard

Hi Lisa. Glad you have come here. Quitting drinking is a great choice to make. I am no longer on bp medication. Drinking was what was causing mine. Good luck on your journey. You can do this.

Welcome LisaMW!

I can relate to the blood pressure stress. Have the same. With the help of my doctor we are addressing this issue.

He could not help me much when I was drinking, now that I'm sober, everything is porrisble. So will you!!

I was "per-hypertension" for the last years. Now my bp is 116/76-72 give or take. It took only a month or so for it to happen. Amazing.

Good luck, good decision.
