Both of my parents were alcoholics
As I grew up I watched both my parents turn to alcohol when things got bad. my mom marked her bottles to catch anyone but her taking a sip or three and my dad had a bottle by his bed. Up until recently I hadn't thought of myself as having a problem with booze until I find I yell at others for having it in their possession. I'm currently guilty of having wine coolers in my fridge and have one while I write.
I don't drink often but when I do its to excess and I end up getting ill, literally. It's at that point I vow never to touch the stuff again. My real drink of choice is whiskey and coke, which I haven't had in maybe 4 months. Unfortunately its now Peach wine coolers.
While I haven't seen my folks in a very long time I remember coming home from seeing them and heading to grab a drink to decompress. I guess I still do that today just for different reasons.
Trying to figure out just how to break that cycle. My dad died of a stroke most likely from the booze. I don't want to end up the same way.

Hi LeaRachel,
You can break the cycle! My story's a bit different but really the same. I've been working hard at my own sobriety and find SR to be a great support. I hope you've joined the February group - you'll find people there who are going through the same things.
