Going on a trip - need tips
We're taking our family vacation for 2 weeks and I need tips on how to stay away from the alcohol. My husband is not a big drinker but he also does not believe I am an alcoholic and thinks my quest for sobriety is "silly". I don't envision him forcing alcohol on me at all but I want some tips for how to handle being away from my routine. Fortunately I will have a laptop and will be checking into SR regularly.
Any thoughts or suggestions are very much appreciated!!!

remember where ever you are
it's ok to break free and go for a walk
I have been in situations where I felt trapped
and grabbed a bottle
best to have a safe and fast escape plan
one only needs to get away for a short while so as to gather their thoughts

My husband of 25yrs. and children
knew I had a problem with alcohol
at one time in my life, but after I entered
recovery, they felt I was cured and didn't
need to use recovery as a crutch.
Of course I knew and still know what
I am and what my addiction is, and
recovery is my way of life. I had to
learn that this is my recovery and
if family saw no need for some sort
of program for themselves, then the
family unit suffers with lack of communication,
understanding, support.
And that is where my family and I suffered.
It is said that when one person in the
family unit is sick with addiction, it affects
the entire unit. In order for everyone to
remain healthy and happy, then it was
suggested that the entire family seek
some sort of recovery program together.
Al-ateen for the younger ones, Al-anon
for the spouse and either AA or NA or
whatever program is useful or helpful
to learn to stay sober or clean.
Every family is different. Take care of
yourself and your recovery program,
and be the best parent you are meant to
be with love, care and understanding
to the best of your ability.
I went on a many a trips within my
25 yr marriage, going thru the different
stages of my kids growing up. My husband
and kids never had addiction problems,
so they didn't understand my program.
However, they knew my routine, service
and commitment to do whatever I needed
to remain sober.
Have your support system in place. Faith,
tools and knowledge on ur trip.
Enjoy.
