I need AA meetings! BUT....

I have no ride! After getting my DUI on Monday the police impounded my vehicle...I talked to my boss on yesterday about borrowing one of the work vehicles, but he doesnt want a marked work truck with company name in an AA parking lot. AND I HAVE NO DAMN BICYCLE! This may sound stupid, but I have no idea how to get around town without a vehicle... and I dont have a lot of cash... Are there any unconventional ways to get to an AA meeting, that does not include taking a bus?

You might try calling the local intergroup or AA hotline and inquiring about a ride. Best of luck to you!

A little over a year ago I wanted to go to a meeting. Same thing. DUI, no car. I called an AA hotline and told them I had no ride. 5 minutes later someone called me back and told me he would pick me up. Not sure if that's an option where you live.

Most places keep a small directory of people willing to give rides.

I remember when I called I had been drinking all day and feeling down. So I called and at the last second was about to chicken out. Someone picked up and I told him I had the wrong number. I remember him telling me "no, I don't think you do". He was more than happy to help. Told me to keep my phone near me. I was at a meeting an hour later.

Too far to walk to a bus stop. I'm on call all next week. So if I get a call while I'm at a meeting I cant get to my work truck fast enough.

Another option. A local group here (300+ members) records all their speaker meetings. Lots of real good ones, and they update it once a week.

I highly recommend Chris from 2013/03/11 near the bottom.

Ask if you can borrow the work truck and agree to park it a block away from the meeting.

That's the first thing tha popped into my head.

2nd was to pick up a bike on craigslist for $25.

3rd was, where there's a will there's a way. It's cliche to say if you've been around the rooms for a while, but if it were for a bottle or a drug, we'd find a way to get there. For certain. I know I would. I was told we need to put the same passion into our sobriety.

If you hit a good meeting, you will also be surprised that other members of AA will offer you a ride too.

Not sure how the buses work there but the GRTC buses here have bike racks, so that is an option. Once to get to work I rode 5 miles to the bus, a 45 minute ride, then 3 more miles to work. Both ways.

What's an AA parking lot? Most people have no clue what goes on where. You could always park and walk a few blocks, too!

That's absolutely true. I hope you find a way there and continue with sobriety!

Since when does AA advertise meetings with signs and placards and neon lights? I think your boss is discriminating and has no right to do so.

If he's that concerned, yes, park it farther from the meeting... but most meetings around here are held in churches...
