Hello all! Last week I decided I really wanted to try to get sober after having a severe anxiety attack at work and being hungover. I went 2 days without drinking then drank Thursday, Friday, and last night. I am trying my best not to drink today and make today the start of a new journey. It's going to be tough though, my husband has already popped open a beer. He doesn't have a problem, but I do wish he wouldn't drink. Maybe it'll make me stronger? Anyway, I wasn't sure where to start on this site or what to say, so there it is!
Hi Jillian, welcome! Keep looking around the site at other posts. I find reading other's stories really helps. I had terrible anxiety when I was drinking and would come on this site to read stories of recovery and I finally joined just after I quit drinking. I have only been sober for a short time but this site has helped make it possible for me to meet others who can relate. My husband drinks frequently but he doesn't have the same problem I have when it comes to drinking. Also there is a list of books on recovery on this site that I have read that really helped me understand what was happening to my body when I initially stopped drinking. They really helped me stay sober during the withdrawal period. You CAN do this! Keep coming on when you need something, or have questions or concerns. It helps. Again Welcome to SR!
Thanks everyone! Cusper, I will have to take a look at those books, I am definitely going to need to fill in my "drinking time" with other things.
Right now I'm going nuts. An hour ago I decided to go to bed but I'm still awake and my husband is up which to me is so frustrating right now. I just want to sleep and can't when he's up! Definitely adjusting since normally I'd be passed out from beer.

Sleep will take time, especially in the early days...or you will find yourself tired more often during the day because for some reason nights are harder. Is there anywhere else in the house you can go to be alone? That is one thing, you might just need some space to figure out how to be sober. Just space in general because there will be many things you will be experiencing. My husband doesn't fully understand what I am going through so I come on here and connect with people who do. If you ever need to chat, feel free to message me.
