Red face Been sober since yesterday 5:00pm

Hello, I am a new comer. So grateful I found this forum. I will be going to my second meeting this afternoon. I am scared. Don't know all my triggers. Some are not feeling in control, not having enough to occupy my mind. I am looking forward to reading all the posts. I have already found some invaluable information.

Question for the veterans. Does it get easier as time goes by, or will I be facing the same struggle not to drink every day?

I have about five months, so I don't think I can be called a veteran by any means, but I can attest to the fact that for me, it got much much easier. I no longer want that drink all the time. The longer your consecutive time away from it, the easier it gets, I think. Glad you are here!

Welcome Mary

Early recovery is really hard - if it didn't get better I'm not sure there'd be too many veterans around to ask

use all the support you have - it does get better and it will get easier - please don't lose heart...

I've never regretted being sober - I've got my life back

D

Welcome Mary! It's great to have you here with us. The support & encouragement are amazing.

To answer your question - yes it does get easier. Staying sober would be almost impossible if it didn't get any better. You'll grow and change as you make this big adjustment. There is life after alcohol - promise.

It gets easier the longer you're sober. After I was about six months in I no longer had to 'concentrate' on staying sober, it was just natural to be that way.

Yep it will get easier pretty fast. I'm a one month rookie and feeling a lot better.

Don't get me wrong, it's not all peachy but with patience, we will all get there
