Another newcomer :-)
Hello people :-) I'll just bore you a little bit about myself..apologies for that in advance!
I'm 23,and I've just admitted to myself I have to stop drinking now.To be honest I've had a problem since about 18 for one reason or another, but I thought its just what young people do so i just got on with it.
Last year was when I started noticing it.I had a car crash which I wasn't driving and was very close to being brown bread.Just before that I just split up with my girlfriend so it was a lot to take.I was on crutches for 8 weeks but I would still hobble a mile down the road to the pub,mad really thinking about it.
I've done a lot of things on the booze which I won't bore you anymore with. Not an everyday drinker but when I binge I BINGE!!
Anyways I have my first meeting tomorrow and thought I'd introduce myself :-)

Welcome Django. Being honest with ourselves about our drinking is just about a requirement in our recovery, congratulations. Usually stopping is simple, staying stopped is where the work is. It was wonderful for me that after a short period of time my desire was gone and that was a long time ago, but it's different for each of us. Following suggestions from the old timers was most helpful for me one day at a time. BE WELL
Good luck at the meeting tomorrow. And welcome to the forum. Often it requires a life changing event to open up our eyes to what we have become. There are a lot of meetings out there. So if by chance you don't feel comfortable in any particular meeting just seek out alternatives. And there are alternatives to AA, should you wish to pursue them.
Cheers everyone its much appreciated
I'm on my 4th day and feel a lot better. I do 4 on 4 off shift work and tomorrow is usually the start of a 4 day binge, but instead i'm off to my first meeting so its a start.
Its a long time coming but it all feels a bit sudden that i just new i needed to pick up the phone for help, if that makes sense?!
But the thing that got me think i really got to do this now,as i was lying in bed feeling nervous, anxious (the usual) on my 4th day on the sauce, the car crash i was in i'm going to get in the region of £20,000 compensation. The way i am now i will be dead within a week, and that scared me.

Welcome! I am also in my early 20s and have stopped drinking
It's really great that you've come to realize you have a problem so early. You can stop it from getting even worse, and have a wonderful life free of the pains of active alcoholism.
Let us know how your first meeting goes! Remember to try and keep an open mind.

welcome Django
don't worry too much about any compensation now - every day sober we get a little stronger and a little further away from who we used to be....if a lot of money does eventually fall in your lap, you'll cross that bridge when you come to it.
you'll find a lot of support and wisdom here anyway
