I was wondering when/ how you go about explaining to your kids why Dad is out of the house. I mean the details. Not just "we are not getting along".

I have a 17 yr old son, 16yr old Dtr, 12 yr old Dtr

I think it's time. I just want to be careful for obvious reasons.

Your children are old enough to know the truth, gently told. They are old enough to share their feelings about all this with you too. You may be surprised at how much they already know, and they may be tiptoeing around so not to hurt "you".

I think a family discussion, calm and honest, is probably long overdue.

I am wondering if you could hire a family therapist to help you with this important conversation. Just a thought, I have no experience.

Pravchaw's thought is a good one. If you feel you need some help, you may be able to find a therapist who would be willing to come to your home to facilitate the discussion. Right now, I'll bet those kids have lots of questions.....
