Hi and congratulations in being honest with yourself about your drinking. Reading posts here are a good way to get an idea of what's needed. I went to AA many years ago for the help I needed from people in the same boat and it works IF we work it. Part of the reason I chose it was there were so many with LONG term sobriety showing the path to a good life.

BE WELL

Hey lonney ,
i recon the doctor would be a good start, as they can monitor and deal with any withdrawl side effects which can be dangerous to ones health, also having a good look round SR here is invaluble in my experience .

Quitting drinking was the first part of it for me , learning how to live life happy being sober and deal with all the up's and down's without wanting to get hammerd was the second part

There are lots of ideas and techniques people seem to use , AA , AVRT , RR , 12 step , non 12 step ... far more than i can remember .. i just kinda took what was useful for me and left the rest ..

Here's a useful post about detox / quitting if you haven'yt found it b4 :-

A huge step.
You BOTH have my best wishes.
I am a newbie myself really but i can tell you that reaching out and accepting the help offered is important.
Have some kind of plan, small steps forward at first.
But probably the most important realization that you ever had, you had today.
