Naltrexone
Has anyone here had experience with Naltrexone? I have been on it for a few weeks and can't see that it is doing a thing for me. I still crave alcohol, and since I know I can still drink while I'm taking it, I have had some relapses. I really want to try to get on Antabuse, because I know that in order to drink it would have to be a long term plan, and by the time I could actually drink, the urge would have passed. My family doctor won't prescribe that, though.

Never took it but I'm curious about your experience. Do you take it daily or only before you drink like the Sinclair method? Also, does health insurance cover the costs?
Thank you for sharing your experience and best of luck

It's a medicine you need to take every day. I take it every morning. It's supposed to help with the desire/craving to drink. My insurance covers it with a $10.00 copay, but if I was paying the full cost it would be $128.00 for 30 tablets. So far I don't think it's doing anything for me. If I had to pay full price I would definitely stop, but I'll give it a while longer before I decide it isn't worth my $10.00 a month. I'm still wanting to try antabuse, though.
Hi scintillady
I've yet to hear of a pill that will take care of cravings in a foolproof way, I'm afraid.
I think support can be an enormous help in getting through cravings, so I'm glad you've found us

i've been on Campral for cravings. i took it regularly then quit. i relapsed some time after then got back on it when i started my sobriety anew. i haven't taken it in a couple of months and i don't feel the strong desire or urge to drink anymore. of course, this time i'm working my AA program like i should have been in the first place. basically, if i'm doing the mental, physical and spiritual work i should be doing, i don't need meds to carry me through cravings.
