Working on Day 5
Thank you all for having a great site like this. I am one of those people who finds it difficult to talk to others face to face, as social anxiety has been just one of the issues I've had that led me to drinking.
I started out as a social drinker in college, then after getting married, usually only on the weekends. Then, it was just a drink a night or two during the week to help de-stress. That turned into every night to the point where I was drinking a pint of rum at each sitting. The rum made me angry and argumentative, so I figured, "Hey, I'll just switch to beer, and I'll be fine." After 4 years of drinking anywhere from 6-15 beers a night, I'd finally had enough. My husband basically became a single parent taking care of our 2 kids, while I did the bare minimum.
I admitted myself into the hospital last Sunday night, and now I am on the road to recovery with the help of some meds. My husband is very supportive of me, so I feel things are going to work. Since it's still early in the process, I'm just glad to know that there are others out there who understand.
At some point, I plan on going to another AA meeting (went once, but it didn't feel right at the time,) and also seeing a counselor about treating my anxiety.
I know that this is what I WANT to do, not just what I need to do. I feel that I've lost years of my life to alcohol, and I refuse to let that happen anymore.
Thanks for listening!

Welcome to SR Tyme2Change
I know you will find lots of support here. This place has been an integral part of my recovery along with AA, AVRT and SMART meetings. There is a lot of support out there. If you have bad social anxiety this is a great place to start connecting with others, especially the Class of... threads. I found that helped keep me accountable too. Glad you're here x
