Any suggestions?

I am looking for ways to "enhance" my recovery. Any good books or videos? The bills are paid and I am ready to spend the big bucks on myself! Lets see, what I do for recovery now is come to this site every day. I don't attend NA anymore. I have their literature and read it every once in a blue moon, but am searching for other things. I am getting into therapy next week... so that should help. Work and school pretty much consume my life, so it seems that books and videos are the way to go for me! I am in the process of once again weeding out the old playmates (my codieness) and its a lot easier than 15 months ago. They want me to go party with them but its no fun to be sober in the middle of their barfathon!

So... suggestions please!

Hi gain Dotperson

I have found that one Mountaingirl and I got ages ago, excellent . " Recovery by Chioce " by Martin Nicolaus. I got it from Amazon, and I think there are a couple of others they recommend to buyers of this one .

And , of course , " under the Influence " but you have probably red that already

Hey Dot,
There are some great step study tapes for Alanon in the codie store. My group has them available for borrowing. I like to listen to them when I am taking walks, and doing housework. Sitting still is rarely an option, so this is a bonus. Hugs, Magic

Hi Dot!

I say WRITE your own book! Why not share your experiences with others who might benifit. You can write as little or as much as time will allow. Even if it never sees the light of day, it might be the best therapy you'll ever have.

Re: Any suggestions?

mmmm

for me, the all time top o th list was 'Zen and Recovery' by Mel Ash
Julie Cameron's book "The Artists Way" is mostly bout unlocking creative process but there is a ton of recovery in it as well.
the same guy, coleman Barks , who translated that Rumi book has a recent book of his translations of Lalla, a Sufi woman poet, "Lalla: Naked Song"

"Whatever I do, the responsibility is mine,
but like one who plants an orchard,
what comes of what I do, the fruit,
will be for others.
I offer the actions of this life
to the God within,
and wherever I go, the way is blessed."

Re: Any suggestions?

Hey Dot!

Bet you would write a great book! I am working with Facing Codependency by Pia Melody, there's an accompanying workbook too called Breaking Free and she is a fellow addict and codie as well, and uses the 12 steps in her work. So far I'm really impressed with what I've read. There is a great meditation book that I like and have passed on to others called Wherever You Go There You Are by Jon Kabbat Zin.

Sounds like you are well on your way miss dot. More power to ya!

Love

Marie
