my first day not drinking...tips?
hi Finally4
Expect not to feel great - but hanging around here, reading posting or chatting should help - it helped me.
Here's a thread of some of our members experiences and what they did:

if you feel really unwell or concerned, seeing a Dr (even the ER) is advised

One hour at a time, then one day at a time. Try to stay distracted with small tasks... Just try not to drink tonight and you will feel proud in the morning. There are no real answers, but please remember that you are not alone. I spent a lot of time on SR in the first few weeks. It helped knowing others were going through the same things I was.
You probably won't sleep well, if it all. Spend a lot of time on this website. If things get rough, don't hesitate to go to ER for medical assistance. They have seen it all before, know what to do to help with your detox, and can monitor your vital signs.
You can also download a copy of the Big Book of AA from Amazon and start reading. And if you are so inclined, google the AA meeting schedule for meetings in your area tomorrow. Then go to one.
