Hello from Spain!

Hey everyone my name is Sean I'm an Alcoholic and Drug addict. I've been sober since 9/27/2010 and I joined this forum because while I go to meetings in the area of Spain I am living in, I still feel a bit lonely and cannot explain exactly what I am going through as Spanish is my second language.

This is my second year here and up until this last December things were going pretty smoothly. Now I am feeling a lot more anxiety and feeling much more lonely and homesick. I'm returning home in June which isn't too far away but I need to find as much support as possible as it is very, very easy to convince myself I am alone when the reality of the situation is that I am not.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to being a part of this forum!

Hi Sean. Glad you are here. Nice to meet you!

I joined SR when I was a year sober because I was basically wanting/needing to find other sober "friends." .... mission accomplished..... You are in the right place

Welcome Sean! Post a lot, read a lot! I'm jealous of you being in Spain, but it isn't so bad here in Florida.

Hi Sean

Welcome to our family, its nice to have you here.

Is home the UK?

Read and post away and get as much support as you can.

You are obviously very determined to recover as attending meetings that are in another language is impressive, at least in my book! I take my hat off to you, I am really impressed.

I come here every day and it helps. I passed a year without a drink on the 14th of Feb and I did with it SR.

Nice to meet you xx

Hi Sean,

Welcome to the forum. It can get a bit lonely, I haven't lived in my country for over 11 years. China, now recently Vietnam.

This forum is a Godsend for me along with AA it has kept me sober for more than 20 months.

Welcome to the family, Sean. You've found a great place where we really understand and relate to each other. It helps me so much with the anxiety I sometimes feel. We're glad you're here.

Wow Colorado - your a long way from home then!

I love Spain, especially the old Spain like Barcelona, Catelonia, Bilbao etc etc.

i admire you for staying clean for this long. Its definitely a good idea to go home as soon as you can. Its understandible that feeling lonely might be a trigger but hoepfully you will find lots of comfort and support here.

Well I'm actually grateful for the opportunity because I get to face my fears that are causing all this anxiety and loneliness. I am grateful that the fellowship exists out here. I'm at a point spiritually where feeling lonely doesn't trigger the obsession to drink, instead, having those feelings remind me that I need to continue to apply the twelve steps in my life and continue working them. When I look back on my past I know those feeling would have immediately led to me getting drunk or high whereas today I look at them as an opportunity for spiritual growth. The opportunity to face my fears, walk through them and come out with more trust in my higher power.

I am grateful for this website because it provides me with another support system of people who can identify and people who have walked through these same fears themselves.

THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE AND FOR THE RESPONSES!

Welcome
I've been to southern Spain (in the Malaga/Costa de Sol/Gibraltar area) 3 times, I loved it, and guess what... with no alcohol.

Keep the sobriety on track, you're doing great.
