advice/help

I have been sober since 9/19/10.

I attend AA meetings almost daily.

I can't find a sponser who will take me through the steps.

I am on my second sponser & when I asked her to sponser me she said she would., but she is having health/job problems & is unable to.

I know life happens, but IDK what to do?

It was very hard to find sponsers as I live in a small community.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Have you considered an online sponsor. I know some have done that through people they have met here at SR.

Another thought is asking someone to be a temporary sponsor and just tell them that you are looking for someone to take you through the Steps. You might have more luck asking people in that manner.

Unfortunately, those are the only two suggestions I have.

I have a woman friend in Pa.She lives near St Marys.
Are you anywhere close to her?
Another option is you may have to find a man sponsor

I'd ask one of the longtime men to take me through the steps.

St. Mary's is on the western side of PA. I am on the eastern side. It is maybe 3 or 4hours away.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I will look up online sponsers & see if I can find a man who might take me through the Steps.

Any one who's gone through the steps can take you through the steps. Doesn't have to be a sponsor.

I'd definately stay away from asking a man. That fourth and fifth can get pretty personal and a woman knows what a woman knows.

Can you call the intergroup office and find out if there's anyone available in your area? Some people aren't as active in meetings, but stay on the 12 step list at the office.

E-Meetings

A woman is best, but a male with spirituality and who has worked the steps could also help. There are women sponsors available online, try aa online chat room.

With love & hugs,

Some special events happening...hopefully you can meet some new people if you attend.

Look for special speaker meetings...may draw some new members. Listen for the messenger.

A sponsor isn't required for going through the steps. Not until you get to the 5th step, and even that can be done with someone other than a sponsor. It is definitely helpful to have someone to guide you through, but all the directions are in the Big Book, there's lots of help in the step book, and you can get lots of thoughts, opinions, and advice here.

My suggestion would be to start going to lots of step meetings, share your experience there, and just get on with it. If you're stuck with something people here can help you out. When the time is right, if the time a right, a sponsor will present themselves. Move forward. Don't let another person, or lack of one hold you back.

My $.02 anyhow.
