There was a thread about this a while back. I think it was called "Music? Music!" and it was asking what kind of music reminded you of your addiction.
I listen to 60's psychedelic, 70's classic and progressive rock, North Indian classical, Turkish classical and folk, English folk rock, ballads, western classical (very selective about that), jazz, Canterbury Scene, Zeuhl, Rock in Opposition (R.I.0), avant garde, avant prog, and a bit of whimsy now and again like the Bonzo Dog Band.

Feel free to discuss it here, but just to let you know, there are a bunch of these types of Threads floating around. Cafe Central has Threads about music, TV, movies, sports, Facebook...tons of stuff. Here is a recent music one:

Seems there was one for music videos but I didn't find it. In the Social Groups section there are others Threads for entertainment as well. You can post Youtube videos,
Dee made a sticky with the instructions here:

Have fun and explore.

The regular music thread is cunningly camouflaged LOL:

I like Skillet (Comatose; Whispers in the Dark; Awake and Alive) and also Pillar (Bring Me Down; Fireproof) just to name a couple that help me out when I'm struggling. These two bands were recommended to me by someone going through addiction/sobriety.
Generally stick to progressive /psychedelic rock. I always have a pink Floyd and Beatles disk laying around. Recently listening to puscifer, portugal the man, and muse. Muse's new album has a couple of songs about recovery and addiction ("save me" and "liquid state")
I find myself getting into music jags and ruts, till I am sick of it all...so I turn to Pandora and let it make suggestions for me. It opens my mind up.
I am basically a rock, grunge person. But yesterday I spent most of the day listening to acoustic Celtic and music written before 500 AD (though how they know this I have no clue, I'm skeptical)
I felt like some cobwebs were being dislodged from my brain.

Everything except that cheesy Country-pop going around these days. Barf. Also tend to like real musicians who sing / play an instrument and write their own stuff. I don't have much respect for the over-produced, auto-tuned, dubbed over, airbrushed "artists" who are actually just rich kids with a record deal.
And.... On a soapbox.
I like Ryan Adams, Jack White, and The Black Keys.
