Without defense against the first drink. This was true, yes. But once the steps are worked and sanity has been restored, we are spiritual fit and therefore do have power against this.

It's amazing how true this is - how easily to forget the near crash, the bloodied face, the angry words, the distraught children, the debilitating hangover, the horrified and embarrassed family, the utter despair and demoralization of ourselves...and then we drink again, thinking this time it's going to be different
