6 months!
6 months!
In the beginning I counted every hour I did not drink.
How well I remember those early days...the withdrawal, the emotional ups and downs, the fear.
Who would I be sober? would I ever have fun again? What would happen to my friends? Would my marriage last?
Every day was an achievement. Every day I learned something new about myself.
I've now reached 6 months. Not drinking isn't the struggle it once was. Now it's learning to live life sober and re-learn old ingrained ways of thinking.
My children seem to have already forgotten who I was, they take it for granted that I am always ready to listen, to be a full part of their lives, can pick them up late at night.
My H gave up drinking with me. Our relationship which was once so fragile is strong and flourishing. We have been married 22 years, but in so many ways only been together 6 months in a real sense.
AA is equipping me with the tools to live this life and I fully appreciate now what I have all around me.
Thankyou to all my many friends on SR who have seen me through the worst bits. Who continue to give me nothing but love and support.
6 months is truly a miracle xxxx

Jeni, last Tuesday (Nov 22) my wife and I went out for supper to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our "first date".
The last half of that period of time was more positive than the first half.
Like the oldtimers told me "Keep coming... it gets better !" I pass along to you. Well done !!
All the best.

Congrats Jeni!!!! I am coming up on 4 months (118 days). I know that early pain and am just now feeling the smoothing out of those "hills". Recovery is a daily job & I love it!!!!! Congrats
