Weight loss????
Weight loss????
As if I didnt have enough reasons to quit, I read this article last night about the colories in alcohol and how we mindlessly consume tons of calories when we drink. Add in mixers and the drunk munchies and we totally blow our daily calorie intake. Im curious if anyone has noticed weight loss since they stopped drinking? What experience do yall have with this?

Every time I have quit in the past, just a few days in I have noticed the water weight drop off...so that plus healthy eating minus the extra 1200+ calories a day I'd hope we lose weight! I have read some people gain though because they bing on food instead of alcohol.

I quit drinking 8 days ago, started working out 6 days a week and have lost 25 pounds in 2 months. I have 15 pounds to go to get to my ideal weight now, ill be there in a month or so. Bottle of red wine has something like 650 calories...

I have lost 25 lbs in 6 months, I think its the decreased calories due to not drinking and healthy eating as I no longer eat rubbish when drunk and then have to eat rubbish the next day due to feeling hungover. I am loving it, have to say the 1st month I gained a few pounds but I think that was just my body adjusting.

i have not lost anything from quitting drinking i quit about 75 days ago... i think i just ate more in the evening out of boredom more than anything and suddenly got craving s for chocolate which i never really ate before... last week however i joined slimming world and lost 4 lbs in my first week so hopefully healthy eating and abit of exercise will see me losing the weight i put on from alcohol..
I read that exercise is really helpful for those who are trying to quit drinking, smoking, drugs, etc because the endorphins released give your body a more "natural high" and that it also helps cut the cravings. I know I am really bad about drinking and then eating late night so I am hoping that adding exercise and no alcohol will help me loose weight and feel better in the process!

I lost 45 pounds in 6 months. Worked out, ate better, but also consumed way less calories. A pint of vodka = 1,312 calories. Add a whole frozen pizza on top of that and you got fat butt syndrome. = )
I actually gained a little when I quit.. towards the end I wasn't really eating anything much, and then I quit drinking and had a voracious appetite! It all balanced out in the end
I really expected to lose weight, but sadly that did not occur. My husband quit drinking with me out of sheer support (I had the drinking issue, not him) and he has lost about 30pounds! I actually put ON weight, but now I’m back to my beginning weight. Truth be told, he increased his workouts and I have not. One thing at a time for me…
Well just a guy but have been working hard lost 50 pounds. I have pretty much given up meat and walk about 5 miles a day feeding my homeless friends and oh yea don;t drink 2 or 3 bottltes of wine. I even did a push up today.

I was drinking 8-10 glasses of wine every day...(bigger glasses, not 5 ounce standard)....I once calculated 200 calories a glass X 10 = 2,000 empty alcohol calories X 7 days....14,000 extra calories a WEEK.
not to mention the shiny red puffy face and swollen lower abdomen.....AND for an extra added bonus! menopause!
first 6 months i dropped about 9-10 lbs and stockpiled chocolate and cookies, then switched to fruit and started watching what i ate. i'm currently down almost 27# and my BP is normal

If you couple the cessation of drinking with eating healthy (avoiding bread, sugar, and pasta), it is almost impossible NOT to lose weight, at least until you hit your own body's "set-point", as it were. The weight can come off quite rapidly as your body seeks homeostasis.

And I gained weight after quitting... But many lose it. Just another resentment.. LOL.. Kidding I will take a couple extra pounds over my old life..
