detoxing
hubby in detox atm and is trying to get
into rehab after. he has ptsd and major
depression. im scared what will happen
when he gets out. he already asked if he
could just have q few drinks on
occassion. told him no way.he thinks it
will help his ptsd. he becomes vebally
abusive when drunk now and has
blackouts. his behaviour was intolerable
when drunk. he did admit himself to
hospital though so hopefully this time
is it. he has detoxed two times this yr
though. what can i expect when he gets
back. peaceful our house is at the
moment though. no
drunk stress

Hey how are you doing? I'm assuming your husband is A Combat Veteran also. If he is, is he affiliated with the V.A? Only reason i'm asking is because I also have P.T.S.D. I stumbled in and out of detoxes / rehabs multiple times, and always seemed to immediately fail. What I winded up having to do this last time I checked out of rehab is check myself into an inpatient P.T.S.D clinic. I spent 5 weeks at the rehab, and 10 weeks at the P.T.S.D clinic. He has to get his P.T.S.D in order as much as the alcoholism because they're feeding each other. Your husband will continue to deal with his P.T.S.D but the clinics teach a lot of tools to help cope with it. I really wish him the best, and take care.

Hi Dessy
I just wanted to tell you that I read your post but as I am still newly out of my relationship and angry as hell, I have nothing useful to say.
Pop back in about 12 hours when the people from the US/people with more experience are awake.

I found lots of information in the posts listed at the top of this main forum page. I also find the experience of others helpful in knowing that I was not alone in living with the drama of active alcoholism.
I learned how to handle the situation by following the steps of one particular post. Here is a link to the post that helped me while living with active alcoholism:

Does detox facility know he has a dual/triple-diagnosis?
What will rehab know about that, if and when he goes in?
I wouldn't assume that in his drunken state, or even after detox, HE will let staff know the whole deal.
