Second day, hope this time it is different
Hello everyone,
I have been drinking consistently for many years. For the past few years I have been drinking alone in bars at night and weekends, pretty much every night, usually only 2-3 pints, but not infrequently up to 4-7. Even writing those words down now makes me want to go get a drink.
I committed to stop drinking and I have been imagining how much better everything in my life will be if I can do that. I have been thinking about how much better I will feel, what I can still do with my life, how much better I will be to myself and my family.
I really want to change my life, but I have tried so many times and it just never stuck. I have read some of the threads here and everyone seems positive and like they also want to get better and help each other. Anyway, I don't know what else to write here, but thanks.

Welcome microdub
I tried many times too - coming here seemed to make a difference though...I finally knew I wasn't alone, that I had support, and that I had a group of people I looked up to and felt accountable to.
It didn't hurt there was a lot of great advice here as well
I'm glad you've joined us

I'm on Day 5, and find reading the threads here and joining in the chat room are helping a lot.
I'm on day two as well. I hope that you succeed, just as I hope that I can myself. I feel like I have been looking at threads all day today. It's really helped me stay as positive as I can. Best wishes.
Microdub,
Have you quit yet? What have you done as a recovery plan before. I used everything I could. I was afraid of detox as I was drinking 30 plus units a day and was drinking from wake up to pass out. So I did a 7 day in hospital detox, as soon as I got out I joined AA and here, and used some of the same things as the GBT, AVRT and Smart Recovery folks. Counseling, and my doc involved all the way from before I checked into detox to now two years plus a few weeks later. You are doing a great thing reading and posting here. Keep that up and we can help you every step of the way. I believe in trying everything, and keeping what I could use and leaving the rest. Have you gone to any AA meetings yet?
