step seven spiritual choice
The steps are spiritual in nature. Step 7 to me is like a 3rd step on steroids. Now that I have done the work of the inventory and know what really drives me and what my defects are, now I can ask God to have all of me and actually have a better idea of what all of me consists of.
It is not a matter of will because I dont have the power to remove my own defects. Only God can do that. My job is to be willing to have them removed. He wont take anything Iam not willing to give up. I perform His work as best I can and the defects He wants removed will be removed. As long as I keep my hands off, He has room to work His magic.

Hey, blizzard, do you remember this thread:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ml#post1935936
?
I'm bringing it up because, about a year after you posted that thread, I got a copy of a Step Study talk of Don M's from 1996, and the part about Steps 6 & 7 (about 30 minutes worth) really, truly changed my life.
I don't want to try to repeat or try to summarize what he says, because that always feels like plagiarism to me and because he says it so well, that I can't really do it justice. If you want to PM me with an address, I could send you a copy. (I have lots of them because I give them to people all the time and so, whenever I get low, my partner makes me 20 or 30.)

Humility. Standing naked before God, with nothing to hide, and asking that our flaws in His eyes be removed.
it is admitting and accepting i have defects/shortcomings and no amount of my own will ower can remove them. i must have help from a power greater than me to remove them.
