Hello!

Hello.

I am teetotal by choice; I feel quite unusual in that I always used to drink quite 'normally' (just a couple at the weekend, could take it or leave it etc) but always had this sense that I could slide into alcoholism if the situation was right. I have quite a compulsive personality and sometimes I drank if I felt down or wanted to 'escape'.

I stopped drinking because I didn't want to take to risk of one day becoming completely addicted. At first I stopped drinking for a year to raise money for charity (which not only raised a lot of money but meant I didn't have to answer any awkward questions) but also made me think completely differently. I realised that, although I hadn't drunk a huge amount before, I had still thought about alcohol a lot and would always have to try hard to control my consumption. I found that giving it up was completely liberating.

The reason I'm here is I guess because I want to provide some support to people who are really struggling with alcohol. I've found that since going teetotal a lot of people have asked me 'how I do it', how I socialise, etc and I thought it might be helpful to share my experiences.

I strongly believe that the world would be a much better place without alcohol, and that anyone can become an alcoholic (whether a 'normal' drinker or not).

Wow that was long and rambly. So in summary... hi everyone!
