Last night was tough

Last night was difficult, I was having a lot of emotions related to my recent breakup. I was feeling very anxious, sad, still grieving some, etc. I really wanted a glass of wine but did not cave. I did read a bit of my rational recovery book in the bathtub last night and realized my addictive voice was wanting something to take the pain away.

Luckily my rational voice was able to realize that drinking wine now was not going to magically erase the past or fix the reasons that the relationship ended (most of which were related to his alcohol anyway). I am still pissed off at alcohol for turning my boyfriend into such an a*hole to me there at the end.

Anyway, I did it and am determined to do it again today. Thanks for listening.

Well done Ziggy! It really helps to rationalise these thoughts x

Good for you, Ziggy for dealing with the situation without caving. And, it will get easier.

Thanks everyone! This evening is seeming easier but I went out for lunch with a friend today and was sorely tempted to have a drink. Again I was able to use AVRT to delay the cravings... one more successful day done!

Keep up the good work, Ziggy! I had cravings all the time at first - that mental obsession takes a while to go away. Just remind yourself that the cravings don't last and will start to get further apart and less powerful as you go along.

Happy for you!

Definitely gets easier as you go. I spent a couple hours in a bar today drinking diet coke while my friend and his wife slugged down beers. Sure, I gave a couple of speculative looks to the off-sale pints of whiskey, but no serious consideration. I like where things are going and have no inclination to throw a broomstick into the spokes.
