Glimpse of the Peace Ahead
Glimpse of the Peace Ahead
Well,
Today is day 35. I started attempting to get sober 6 months ago, but only committed 100% 35 days ago- so that is my sobriety date.
I woke up today realizing that I have been feeling very calm, content, and peaceful. I realized that, though I believed I was using alcohol to reduce anxiety, stress, and depression, alcohol had actually become the REASON behind a lot of those feelings. Who knew?
I've committed to going to at least 6-8 AA meetings per week for the summer, in addition to my individual therapy and outpatient group therapy. Even though I don't have a sponsor, and haven't started step work, I still am benefiting from meeting other alcoholics and hearing their stories.
Thanks SR friends for giving me a place to share, and learn!

My ability to handle stress has increased about 10 fold over the last 12 months. Alcohol had over time lowered my tolerance for inconvenience, increased my over-reactions etc.
The feeling of calm overall continued to get better.
