Thumbs up TOPIC: Serenity, Where Is Yours?

Hi, I am Sharon, and I'm an Alcoholic.

How is your serenity today? Your peace
of mind? The calmness you feel within?

There has been quite a few times in my
life where my serenity was somewhere's
down the road, out the door, gone, just
not feeling it.

Usually it's when small itty bitty things in
life that knit pick at me, ruffle my feathers so
to speak, that i'm not feeling that serenity
or calmess within myself or in my life.

One thing after another begins a snowball
effect in my everyday life, sometimes wondering
why it is happening to me all of a sudden, that
i suddenly realize my serenity is gone from my
heart and soul.

Normally when this accurrs in my life, I have
to go back to basics or recovery 101. Go
back and review the first stepping stones that
I have built my recovery life upon.

Then, go for a walk or a place that is quiet and
serene. I place where there is no distractions so
I can get in touch with the Strength that guides
and protects me each day.

Do you have trouble holding onto your own
serenity? What do you do to get your own
sernity back so you can continue on in ur
recovery journey with contentment, peace of
mind, happiness?

Hey Sharon...I once heard that serenity was being at peace with God. I liked that. When things seem a little off course for me...Prayer straightens me out. I pray like I used to drink. I think if I was going to be locked away on a deserted island somewhere for the rest of my life and I could bring one thing with me.....It would be my 11th step.

Meditation and mindfulness, when I'm thoughtful enough to practice it, brings me a bounty of serenity. Its reassuring to know that my serenity is not dependent on people, places, things and the divine.

Great post, Sharon.

I find serenity when my head, my heart, my body and my soul are all in the same place at the same time..... and the way things are at that time are just fine with me.

Usually happens during and after a meeting .......

All the best.

I find that the only thing necessary for maintaining serenity in my life is to leave it in God's. When I leave the piloting of my life to Him, the plane flys straight, level and without turbulance. It's only when I try flying my own course that things go wrong and He has to hit me with a 2 X 4 to catch my attention.

Love your post Sharon

I think I find serenity when I accept things exactly as they are, without judging, analyzing, bargaining, controlling and manipulating, without wishing or hoping things were different, that I were different, that others behaved differently, or desparately clinging to a moment hoping to make it last forever, but simply surrendering to things exactly as they are, ever changing and flowing like a river, and plunging right in.

Doesn't happen very often to tell you the truth
