Concept 7
The Charter and Bylaws of the General Service Board are legal instruments, empowering the trustees to manage and conduct world service affairs. The Conference Charter is not a legal document; it relies upon tradition and the A.A. purse for final effectiveness.
Do we act responsibly regarding the “power of the purse?”What do we mean by the power of the purse?Simply put- our groups exercise very real control based on the amount we contribute to our district, area, and New York. For example, based on the current donations in my District, we cannot afford to print the newsletter ( costs over 600 dollars per year). The GSR's made an informed decision to not print it any longer. It is available on the District web site. This is not a call to increase 7th tradition splits to District, simply stating an example of how what goes on in the group determines the direction your trusted servants act on your behalf.
