Growing Old-The Gift of Sobriety

When I consider what’s it’s like to grow old, the challenges of the passing years, I wonder at the great gift of sobriety. What might it have been like had I not been given that? Perhaps death might have come long before, a saving grace if I had not gone into recovery. So many of my friends are either gone now or suffer from illnesses such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimers, cancer. I take fifteen or more pills a day, largely for blood pressure. What would happen if I continued to drink and take all that medication? I can still drive a car but, despite my sobriety, do not trust myself for more than a couple of hours at the wheel.
Sure I wish I had been able to have all that sobriety in my early years. But I’m really thankful that I have it now!

That's a really cool post, painter I am only 44 but I look at my recovery as a gift like that too. So thankful for my second chance.
