After awhile, you may even find yourself hearing things, like not just words, but ideas. I am not being sarcastic or flip...it was my experience...an entire progression had to take place over months of time. I simply was not able to listen for a long while, and it took more time to hear.,

I'm not even going to admit how long it took for any of it to sink in...

How am I today?

Well I woke up and went for a run, was tired of sitting at home so I went to a movie. I wrote down some things and realized that I needed a real friend in all of this because I cannot do it alone. I have just had my first major challenge as a friend recently called me and asked me over for a few drinks to start off the new year. I wont go, I will make up an excuse (to not drink).
For everyone out there I actually enjoyed the meeting. Everyone was very nice and welcomed me with open arms. I had been to several before and hated them. I plan to attend that meeting again since it is close by. My next step is going to be getting a sponsor.
Also nobody smoked in the meeting.

Thanks everyone for you support and I hope that you are having a great start to 2012.

Answer: I am happy right now, but know that I have some huge challenges to face and a lot of big questions to answer.

I found listening and absorbing what I needed
to learn and know in recovery very helpful to me
because it has allowed me to remain sober another
24 hours for the last 21 yrs.

I use to worry because i didnt speak up in meetings
mainly due to fear of not sounding so profound or
elegantly as most. I shared that concern with my
sponsor and she reassured me that in meetings there
will be listeners and speakers and both are just as
important as the other.

She also let me know that when i was ready to speak
then I would know it. Sure enough i did some time
later and finally felt like I made a huge step in becoming
responsible in my own recovery.

Responsible in sharing my own ESH with others who are
still struggling with addiction.

Ive grown alot in recovery in which Im grateful for.

Way to go, Ed. I think that we all need to learn to listen better and learn from others -- that's the key to being successful in recovery.
