Day 1
Day 1
Hit it hard over the Christmas break and I am paying for it. These withdrawals are horrible. I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight but I don't want to induce it with more drinks so I am suffering through these shakes.

(((Rugby))) - Welcome to SR!! I agree with ((Dee)) - alcohol withdrawal can be really bad, even fatal, so I'd recommend seeing a doctor. There are a lot of people here who are just contemplating, just beginning, or are decades into recovery, which I found a big help when I first came here.
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

I did see a doctor today but he said he couldn't do anything medically for me... he said to check into a detox or go to the ER but I can't spend another 5 days in a clinic. I am trying to fight through this myself....
Rugby you have a cruddy doctor. There are things and medicine they can give you. If it gets bad find another dr. I went to the ER once but to be honest make that your last resort because it is expensive. Not more expensive them your life don't get me wrong. Find a way to monitor your blood pressure (Shopko, Walmart. Walgreens, CVS) all have free blood pressure monitors. This is serious sh&* so don't mess around with it.

Welcome to SR and good luck Rugby8.
Nothing to say except I love rugby - are you a lock?
Oh, and of course, since you've made the decision to quit drinking, you can still join our December 2011 team. The more the merrier!

FYI, link for the December team can be found below:

It's a designated area for all of us newcomers (who decided to quit our addictions in December).

Rugby - welcome to SR. This is a wonderful place that pulled me out of despair.
At the end of my drinking career, I realized there were no more good times to be had by getting wasted. The fun that it once was was long gone - it had become dangerous and disgusting. I wasn't remembering things I said or did. I wasn't participating in life. You'll never have to feel this miserable again, Rugby. You can rid yourself of this poison and have a new beginning. We're here to listen and help.

Actually converted from #6 Wing Forward to #8Man in the scrum... Hence I stick with the moniker Rugby8.
Sober Rugby... that's a new concept. lol.
Hey.. my neighbor gave me a couple xanex's and I took one and I feel about 75% better right now. NO DRINKS!

Rugby you decided to do it now instead of the never ending tomorrows we all seem to be stuck on when we drink. Good for you! SR worked for me as one half of my long term sobriety. I joined SR the week after I got out of the in-hospital detox. Stick with your quit bud! I look forward to your posts.
Congratulations Rugby8 and welcome to SR. I actually just joined a few days ago and so far everyone has been extremely helpful and inviting to me. I agree with everyone else here, you should definitely see another doctor. Yesterday mine prescribed me Clonazepam and a beta blocker. I was walking around the house more calm and still than I ever thought I could. Especially since those xanax made you feel better, the benzo I got also helps prevent seizures which are extremely dangerous during days 5 through 7. Good luck to you, Rugby8! Keep coming back.
Oh and I'm 8 days sober today. You can do it!
