31 Beers Last Saturday
I remember one night driving home loaded and thinking how my wife was going to be livid for me having driven home. I parked the car about a block and a half from our home and then walked home from there.
The next morning I actually called a cab so as to keep up the pre tense...took the cab the 1.5 blocks, gave the driver a big tip and collected my car.
How stupid a story is that?

Welcome! I am just working thru 2 DUI's right now 180hrs community service, probation for 2 yrs and about12 thousand dollars later im sober!!! Its really worth the work of recvery! The holiday season is upon us and cops are too happy to conduct sobriety checks!
I binge. I'll go 3-6 weeks without drinking....then I will drink two days straight. A case is usually what I'll drink in a day. I'll find an excuse, after 3-4 weeks, to "reward" myself. I use excuses "cooking bar b q"---going to a local lake camping, etc. I cannot drink one beer without thinking about my next one.
I am done with drinking...going to AA Friday.

I wish there was a way to have each reader feel how much frustration, worry, effort, anger because money was spent somewhere else, and the other crap you've experienced..
As you said, DUIs are an incredible nightmare.
I have one too. It effin sucked. Finding a laywer, court dates, skipping work, restrictions on my license for driving, going to drunk-driving school for twelve three hour classes, finding SR-22 insurance and hoping my regular auto insurance doesn't find out and raise my rates.
It's like adopting a sickly child, without the feeling of accomplishment.
I don't want to minimize the danger to others that we all realize happens when we're drunk & driving.
IF you are still drinking, please don't leave the house with your car. This is far and away the cheaper, better option. Until you've gone through it, it's hard to imagine how much of a hassle it is if you are caught. Just as it's hard for me to imagine how much regret and depression would occur if i would have harmed someone. Luckily, one of my times driving drunk the police got me off the road before i hurt someone. I was ugly drunk too. Stumbling, couldn't stand straight, and merely on auto-pilot. I would never have allowed me to drive drunk. But the drinking messes up decision making. So, it's important to make the choice to leave the car at home before leaving. There is NO benefit with driving after you've had a drink.
