One day at a time
I'm new to this. Six months ago you would have never though I'd do the things I've done.
I was completely against everything that was illegal, considered "drugs," or what have you.
Today, I'm making a big step towards recovery and I'm joining this forum as a support group.
While I am not a recovered addict, I am much better off than I was two months ago.
I hope to be sober by New Year's. One step I am taking to do so is cutting myself off from everything.
Perhaps, by flying out to another state to visit friends in December.
I would explain more, but I don't want to give too much away and I'm not entirely sure what all of the rules are yet.
I've had my ups and downs.

Welcome, wishing you the best on staying sober.
I am around 55 days clean of alcohol, feeling much better and staying sober through New Years will be a great accomplishment for me (as well as most of us in early recovery).

Thanks all for the warm welcomes. I can't seem to want to sleep to night.
Hopefully that changes soon!
Random thought: I surround myself with the worst people.
That needs to change.

I have set goals in the past, quick, seemingly simple, only to fall short and fall deeper into a dark, depressing hole.
To me, failure is worse than not trying in the first place. It's a culture/family thing, I suppose.
I have cut down tremendously in the past few weeks.
I had gone from a "10" to an "8" and now I'm down to "5," if that makes sense (they aren't actual numbers, just trying to give you an idea).

I tried quitting cold turkey. Didn't really work. If anything, it made me incredibly agitated and depressed. I'm not sure what to do. I made it four days, but because I kept falling asleep during Bio lecture, I had to do something.
That was three more days than I had expected, at least. I am now down to a "2," where I should be again without abuse. It does not work the same, unfortunately, but my self control has improved.

stopping drinking not easy for sure Meteor - if it was, we wouldn't need SR.
I think nearly everyone here can identify with your feelings of agitation and depression and tiredness in early recovery.
going back to drinking was an answer I employed for a good many years too - but it's no answer really...
what's going to happen when you're back up again at what you call 10...or 12?
