I can't count the number of times I've been here before.

A short bio. Drinking heavily since about 14. Alcoholism runs in the family - father, great grandfather.

I've managed a couple of years sober before, but I always come back.

41 now, married, kids, but bits of me are starting to hurt - my liver mostly. And the blackouts are getting worse. I fell down the stairs recently after one long binge and came close to really hurting myself. Then on Saturday night, struggling up the stairs I knocked my daughter's picture off the wall and the glass smashed on the floor. I didn't even know I'd done it.

The guilt is consuming. I just hope it's enough this time to keep me off the drink.

Sober since Sunday. Sweated buckets last night and couldn't sleep, mental fog as well.

Don't know what else to say really, at least my liver doesn't hurt quite as much this morning.

Most of us can identify with how you feel and completely understand. You have got the first night out of the way, well done! It can only get better.

I had more day Ones than I care to remember. Many times I wanted to just give up and drink myself to death but the good people here and my addiction counselor encouraged me to not give up. And after many false starts I finally 'got it'. I am now 22 months sober. Don't give up!! Keep trying until you 'get it'. You can do this!

hey tiger1 - I have had a ton of day one's too and recently I have been a jerk to the ones who love me because of alcohol and blacking out and being out of control. Im with you and understand. Im on day 2 and yes getting through day one was hard but its done! Good luck today!!!

I had more days 1's than I can count. My advice would be to get checked out by a doctor regarding your liver pain.

You CAN stop. Many of us fail so don't feel alone. But when enough is enough, you can succeed in sobriety.

My day one as well. I'm so tired of starting over. Bone tired. I put together 9-10 days a little over a year ago and then failed. I told myself I wouldn't post here again until I had at least 30, but discovering if I wait for that I may never post again. Feeling pi$$ed off at myself and quite demoralized at the moment.
