I have a friend of mine. He’s in real bad shape.
10 days clean off meth.
Wife kicked him out of their house, took away “his” car, “his” cell phone.
He lost his job months ago. He can’t stop lying, living in a sad pathetic world mixed with denial, shame, and anger (I remember that well).
Again, he’s in real bad shape.
Last night, at the 7pm AA meeting, he finally took his sponsors advice - he raised his hand and said “I need help”.
This simple act of humility was full of emotion (he broke down crying), but very, very powerful.
There is power in the asking for help. Grown men and women ask for the things they need.
…after the meeting, darn near every single person came up to him, hugged him, and a group of guys gave him their numbers. He might even have a place to stay.
It was a GREAT reminder. When I need help, I need to ask for it (regardless of my age or sobriety date).

Those powerful AA moments really stick with me. That's another good reason for me to attend meetings on a regular basis. You never know when one of those meetings will occur, and that one meeting can keep me sober for weeks.
