Learning Never Ends
"My experience as an old-timer has to some degree paralleled your own and that of many others. We all find that the time comes when we are not allowed to manage and conduct the functional affairs of groups, areas, or, in my case, A.A. as a whole. In the end we can only be worth as much as our spiritual example has justified. To that extent, we become useful symbols--and that's just about it."

"I have become a pupil of the A.A. movement rather than the teacher I once thought I was."

after many years of various service work in AA...when I stepped aside to give newer members their time to serve....the first thing I did ..was to no longer go to GC meetings.
And...I'm pleased to say...my home group continues to move forward.....

Carol,I was treasure for 6 yrs because no one wanted it,finally i told them they had to get one because i was quitting
a lady named Linda ,sober one yr stepped up and is doing good
yep,it is good to see them grow and carry on

Example and being available for conversation and the ability to HEAR, not just listen to the struggling alcoholic seem to be the most I have to offer these days. I have become a strong believer in the FELLOWSHIP of AA and as of late I seem more inclined to ask what I can do than tell what one should do.
Who knows, maybe I am just getting old.
I have an enormous debt to those who came before me in AA and I am simply trying to repay that debt by offering "the hand of AA" when someone reaches out. A few years ago I was so consumed with District and Area positions that I kind of lost sight of the AA new comer as an individual.

Carol, are you hinting you want to rest a bit?
Hi Carol,
I hope not, as your posts here are the constant that I sometimes rely heavily on to make sense of the tough days...............just wanted to say thanks ...........

my past sponsor who had 50 yrs sobriety used to sit in meetings, and sometimes drift off and catch a few winks during the meeting, but he was in his late 80`s.
When our group would sometimes get into discussions, and start nitpicking like we sometimes do here,he had a great and humble way to bring us all back to the important stuff in the simplest form.Sometimes just a short simple sentence got us.
He knew the approach to a alcoholic meant everything, and he seemed to know the right things to say at the right time
our group misses him and our other elders who have passed on
Jon,as we get older,I think we mellow out, which is a good thing
