Just wanted to introduce myself

I am living in NJ. I am married to an alcoholic. I am currently and actively going to al anon meetings, averaging about 1 a day. Sometimes 2. About 4 months ago my life went into turmoil, not due to my marriage, but more so due to a relationship I was in. For about 3 months, I attended 2 meetings a day. It truly helped -- again -- saved my life. I am now in a good place, with many things. I know that a couple of things may not work out the way I want them to, but I am OK with that. I know that those few things not working out the way I want will not consume or ruin me and will not make my entire life unhappy and unhealthy. All of this is thanks to al anon.

As far as my being married, I am doing well with the day to day detachment, not enabling, etc. Like many, I have my slips. There is always something to deal with. My wife is drinking daily, hiding alcohol around the house, and I just found out recently she was carrying alcohol (an open bottle) in her pocketbook (I found it after she was out driving). Typical self-medicating as well. All of the 'ism's are there. Nothing new to many of you. My plan to get things -- financially, emotionally, and otherwise -- to "stable" and then file for divorce. We already live separate lives and emotionally we are "separated" (as well as physically). We grew apart and that lead to living separate lives. That's a good thing though. It's healthy for me, it keeps very toxic, damaging things out of my life, for the most part (absent the occasional slips, incidents, etc.).

I was surfing the internet and found this place. Like al anon, I felt it would be very good to be in a place where I belong and where others "get it" and know.

Thank you.

Well, it sounds like you found the right place and are doing the right things, alanon, detaching, etc.
Keep reading and posting. This forum has literally changed my life.
Or I should say, helped and encouraged ME to change my life.
Welcome!
