Day One

Hey everyone.. very glad to have found this site. I've tried controlling my drinking for so long and have even said that I would quit completely several times. I'm just so tired of doing this to myself, and waking up not knowing what I did or said the night before. I'm only 20 years old, but I know that I have a drinking problem, and that it's only going to get worse. I'm exactly a week away from turning 21, and quite frankly, scared of what being of legal age to drink could do to me. So I'm done, done FOR GOOD, and I'm not changing my mind. Thanks for reading.

Good luck.

If you find you can't do it on your own, you may want to try a support group like AA.

Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic sober since
8-11-90 after my family did an intervention on
me and was sent to rehab where I spent 28 day
recieving the tools and knowledge of alcoholism
to learn to live a day at a time without drinking.

I thought 30 was young when I enter recovery and
since then over the past 20 yrs. have seen an explosion
of young adults coming in to deal with their addiction.

As i sit in meetings and look around the room and witness
a new genteration of young adults wanting to help them-
selves all I can do is feel joy inside for them. To be so
PROUD of them recognizing their addiction at an early
age and doing something about it so they can move on
in their lives and become productive happy responsible
members of society.

Today the younger generation are supportive of each other
as they learn from the older generation how we stayed
sober for so many years. and all we do is share our own
experiences, strengths and hopes of what it was like before
during and after drinking or drugging.

From there you do the same with even the younger ones
following behind you. It's an on going process of helping
each other with an addiction problem and a common recovery
solution.

You are not alone as you will soon learn.

Good luck on ur new sober journey living it a day at a time.

Hi lifewithout! So glad that you are here with us and glad that you have made this decision! Huge first step Alot of us find we cannot do it on our own, so it is always okay to reach out and accept help weather that be SR, AA or another support system.

welcome to the forum! Good for you for getting sober - you'll have a head start on everyone else your age and will be saving yourself a lot of misery (probably DUI's, bad relationships, and who knows what else)......

I agree with iliveforyou, though - it's really hard to do it on your own, so get some supportive people around you, try AA, and hang out with us. We know what it's like!
