Daily Meditation

Thought I'd share my daily Step10/11 routine. I've been doing this for a while after feeling like I was stuck in a rut. One of the most revealing aspects of this practice has been to see in what areas I'm blocked from God.

It becomes very obvious when I can't get a vision of what it looks like to be patient, kind, and loving (or some other area) towards someone. When I can't see what that looks like, I immediately know that I need to write some inventory to uncover what's blocking me. Then I 5,6,7,8,9 it as needed.

1. 83:1
a. Ask Creator to show the way of patience, tolerance, kindliness and love
b. Meditate on what it looks like for each family member
2. 84:2
a. Ask god to remove selfishness, dishonesty, resentment and fear
b. Meditate on what it looks like when I’m selfish, dishonest, resentful and fearful
c. Meditate on someone I can help
d. Meditate upon what it looks like when I’m being loving and tolerant.
3. 85:1
a. Ask God how to best serve Him
b. Mediate on God’s Will for our lives
4. 85:3 – 86:1
a. Ask god to show you truth and then answer the 12 questions
b. Ask for God’s forgiveness for the areas in which you failed
c. Meditate on what corrective action should be taken
5. 86:2
a. Ask God to direct our thinking
b. Meditate on 24 hours ahead and our plans for the day
6. 86:2
a. Ask God to divorce our thinking from self-pity, dishonest & self-seeking motives
b. Meditate upon what self-pity, dishonest & self-seeking motives looks like in you
7. 86:3
a. Ask God for inspiration
b. Meditate upon any indecision, relax & take it easy, quiet your mind
8. 87:1
a. Ask to be shown all throughout the day what your next step is to be
b. Meditate upon any problems you may face & be mindful of possible answers
9. 87:1
a. Ask for freedom from self-will
b. Meditate upon how others can be helped by our actions
10. 87:2
a. Ask a select set of morning prayers -[suggestion: 3rd step, 7th Step, St. Francis]
b. Meditate upon the meaning of each of the words in those Prayers
11. 87:3
a. Ask for the right thought or action
b. Meditate upon how we are working for God today and that we aren’t running the show
12. 164:2
a. Ask God to show you how to help the man who’s still sick
b. Meditate upon how you can help & meditate upon if your own house is in order.
c. Correct anything necessary to get your house in order!

As much of a thumper as I'm turning out to be, I don't use the Big Book directions exactly for my prayer/meditation routine. =O
I understand Bill to mean in Step 11 to follow your own religious beliefs if you have a religious background. For former agnostics who've found God, here's some good suggestions.

I sit quietly in meditation, watching the breath. Sometimes I'll count breaths on a mala. Of course in prayer I ask for all beings to be happy, joyous, and free. I do my own examination of conscious. Sometimes I just do spiritual reading and reflect on it.

I've done that for years as well, and I still do. But sometimes, things get flat and I've found it beneficial to shake it up a little. I have to say that getting specific like this format has been a real gift to me. Keeps me more 'God-directed.'
