FLEE DESOLATION
The moment you catch yourself thinking a negative thought, you should reject it instantly. Do not stop to say "good-by" to the error but immediately switch your attention to the Presence of God. Indeed, we may say that when error presents itself to consciousness, the first five seconds are golden.
When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place (whose readeth, let him understand
Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains;
Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house;
Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes (Matthew 24:15-18).
Jesus teaches this lesson in his own graphic way. The hold place is your consciousness, and the abomination of desolation is any negative thought, because a negative thought means belief in the absence of God at the point concerned.
It is impossible to forget this illustration once we have taken it in.

I've tried the mental diet, where everytime I got a negative thought I immediately switched that negative thought into the presence of God. It was alot of work but it does seem to pay off in the long run.
Threads like these are just another reminder on why I need to continue with the mental diet as much as I'm capable of. To the greater degree that I shift my mind away from negative thoughts, the more efficient my sobriety and life will be.

Reminds me of the spiritual tool of "watch" from the 10th step. It was suggested to me to work with this word/tool for six months. I began this practice back in November and it has greatly increased my awareness of the things I am told to watch for. Sometimes I find myself more aware than I care to be at a given moment, lol.
