4 or 5 shots.
I don't drink, but I'm wondering...
If a person goes out and drinks 4 to 5 shots over the course of an evening is that necessarily alcoholic behavior?
Can you still be an alcoholic if you don't drink everyday? My understanding is that it doesn't have anything to do necessarily with the frequency of the drinking but rather the reasons WHY a person drinks,,ie using alcohol to cope with life issues.
Also, I have a girlfriend who is convinced that for someone to truly be an alcoholic they have to drink all the time and use slurred speech drinking? Is this right?????
Thx!-H

It isn't so much the quantity or frequency, but how alcohol affects a person. If someone can just have one or two drinks and then walk away without feeling the need for more, then chances are they aren't alcoholic. If they go out for one or two and continually end up drinking until they are drunk, chances are they might be alcoholic.
Also, I have a girlfriend who is convinced that for someone to truly be an alcoholic they have to drink all the time and use slurred speech drinking? Is this right????? No, there are many people who hold high level positions who are alcoholics. Again, it isn't the frequency, it is how alcohol affects a person.
