Hello

55 does not mean anything

I am nearly 3 years clean and sober, just finished going through the "Big Book", done an amend that came from from the Step 4 harms list. ( No we don't burn our inventory!)
Doing service etc etc etc.

My drinking went on for over 30 years, black-out drinker from the start.
I never knew AA existed or any 12 step programs for that matter.
All I thought was, I will learn to drink, one day.
That day arrived in 2007, when I suspected something. "Maybe I'm wrong, I'll ring AA and ask".
I do not know where the idea of AA came from, it just did. I thought I was phoning some government funded help service, like "life-line" or "how to quit smoking" free info service, "this is a recording, please leave your name, address, age, mariage status, press # then leave your contact numbers and as soon as the lines a free, we will call you" type of thing.

HA !
After 30 years of suffering, humiliation, marriage break-ups, cells, fimes, damage to property etc etc etcf, but no DUI ever, I find out I have an alergy.
And it got worse when i asked, "when was this new medical breakthrough discovered?",
HA!
The guy on the phone said around 1935.
WHAT!!, I said, "buddy, do you know what year it is?, it 2007, how long have YOU been sober", he said, "oh about 20 years".

today I am a gratefukll recovering real alcoholic
God Bless us all

Thanks for sharing your story, Pete and welcome to the forum (congrats on your sobriety, too)! It's surprising how little knowledge about alcoholism is out there, isn't it? Since educating myself on it, I'm surprised it's so accepted in society.......

Hope to see you around the forum!

Thanks for the warm welcomes.
Yep, I'll be around sharing my expiriences etc.
My favourite MP3 download is Paul F from xa-speakers, hope there are others around here who have heard his workshop methods

Once again, thank you for being here.

Pete
