Day 5 without a drink.
Day 5 without a drink.
Hope to keep it going. My cravings are only at night and trying to keep myself busy with the kids/wife and their activities. Dont think my wife knew their was an issue and wondering if she will notice that I am not drinking. Cravings are hard at night. Wondering what will happen when the first social activity pops up. Last time I made it only 9 days. Hope to never drink again this time....

Welcome and congratulations! Coming here and admitting your problem is an awesome step in the right direction too! The times I tried quitting without telling anyone face to face left me open to return to drinking without anyone knowing. If you are not ready to tell your wife, at least keep talking to us. There are lots of great suggestions for avoiding drinks in a social situation. We all have individual plans and strategies that fit our lives best. So glad you are here!
In early recovery it might be best to avoid any potential triggers, especially if drinking is the key element to the social activity. You don't want to sink your sobriety so early in your recovery.
My wife didn't think I drank too much...then again, I hide a lot of my drinking from her just so she wouldn't know. Nor has she once mentioned the fact that I've stopped drinking, even though its pretty apparent. No matter. My recovery is mine. Not hers. But if you think your wife's support will help her, why not tell her.
Welcome and good luck.

I also have 3 young sons and dont want them growing up seeing me drink each night. Not a good lesson. Knowing what I did as a teenager (while drunk) and times that by 3 = trouble just waiting to happen.
Welcome and if you're an alcoholic, than you're one of millions in the U.S. alone.
We can and do recover. You can be living proof.
AA saved my life (and SR too), but I'm not special as it can work for you too.

goodnight, way to go on five days. You said you made it nine days last time. Ten used to be my "limit" then I'd go back... I am now on day 40 (or 41? Wow! I've lost count.) and I couldn't be happier about it. It feels great. Keep going. Keep coming to SR. We are rooting for you!
Welcome GN and hoping is best replaced with doing!!! Way to go and you can do it....just keep it going and reach out....we are here!
I haven't used any meds myself but found being here was a life saving start to recovery....remember to take it easy on yourself and give yourself time. It does get so much better.
Looking forward to the journey!

Hi goodnight
Welcome to SR
drinking was all I knew for 20 years too - I literally did everything with a drink...but it was killing me, so I stopped.
It wasn't easy - it took a lot of work and a lot of commitment, but it's possible.
You'll find a lot of support here
I guess you bought the campral online? I don't recommend that, myself - if you've drunk hard and long like I did, I think the responsible thing to do is see a Dr - detox is fine for most of us, but it can be problematic for some.
It's in your best interests to get some professional advice too - Campral may not be suitable for you - best to be safe than sorry.
