Hi everyone. I hope I am in the right place. Just wanted to get some advice out there. I am going through my own little home detox off painkillers (oxycodone) that was given to me about 2 and a half yrs ago following an accident. I hope I can get some questions answered on similar experiences.
Have you asked your doctor for help in getting off them? That might be a good place to start. And do take a look at our substance abuse forum. Lots of advice and good info there from others in your situation.

Hi Susan
I also encourage you to see your Dr - from the experiences of members I've read here, getting off Oxy can be very difficult for some.
It's best to have some professional supervision and advice
Do check out the link least posted.
Welcome

Thank u everyone. I had no choice but to go cold turkey off these. My last pill was taken Monday morning. I am doing this on my own so far. Hopefully, it works out. Just not quite sure how long it takes. Anyone know?
How long a detox takes depends on how long and hard you were using, your age, and a lot of other things. It also depends on what you consider "the end."
I take it no choice means you don't have insurance or access to a doctor? You might check into other options. If you contact many health care/social service places (hospitals, DHHS, etc.) a social worker might be able to guide you to any free services in the area or even get you temporary assistance. Save you the trouble of looking.

We encourage people to see Drs here Susan - and it's against our rules for other posters to give medical advice, for that reason.
Look into the suggestions you've had here - it's in your best interests.
You can also google 'free clinics' and your local city or area.
With a bit of luck you'll find something

Thanks for the advice. I am doing pretty well right now...thank god. I always planned to go off I just didnt know when I would do it. After an accident, I was referred to a pretty shady doc for pain mgmt. After a few yrs of seeing him, he was arrested and license pulled. Apparently, he was very shady. Obviously I ran out and I decided this is the time to do it, with or without a doctor. Some good days and then some bad. The good thing is when I found out about his situation I immediately starting stretching out my quantity and taking less and less. I am currently on the 5th full day and hopeing its almost over because I am working while going thru this and its not a good situation.
I hope your detox goes smoothly enough to allow you to function decently. I will pray it goes well for you. Do check out about any free services in your area. I know where I live we have a free clinic and also some doctors' practices have programs for no cost, low cost medical services. Stay healthy in the meantime. Drink enough fluids, eat good easy food, rest when you can. You CAN beat this and come out clean on the other side. My drug of choice was wine, but addiction is addiction, a trap, no matter what you're addicted to.
Again, welcome to a really cool supportive place.

Hi Susan
Here are some general common sense ideas (not specifically related to withdrawal)
You might find something in there
Insomnia? 42 Simple Tips to Help You Get to Sleep - Insomnia treatment, cures
If this goes on, or if you're really at your wits end, I can only recommend again that you see a Dr.
