My 6 Month Celebration
My 6 Month Celebration
In a couple hours I will hit my 6 month mark…183 days without that poison.
Although I am glad I made it to this day, I wasn’t really planning on doing anything for it. Then a couple of my SR friends over on Kicking Asphalt, the Daily Fitness Thread, inspired me to celebrate. After thinking about it, I decided to pick some exercises and do one repetition for each day sober. My goal was to keep each set under 6 minutes to represent 6 months sober.
Got done a bit ago. My results are below:
183 Body Weight Squats (hindu) - 5 minutes 44 seconds.
183 Push Ups - 6 minutes 2 seconds (Went over the 6 minutes and admittedly bad form towards the end)
183 Situps – 4 minutes 53 seconds
I am very proud of this. However, I am only sharing and in no way bragging. What I will say is that 6 months ago I wouldn’t have been able to come close to this. Physical fitness has been such an important part of my life for so long. However, it took a back seat to the drinking. The longer I drank, the more I drank, the less I worked out.
I will also suggest to those new to sobriety, or people not new, or whoever – Embrace something. Whether it’s music, reading, physical activity, community work, Religion – Find something to inspire you and embrace it!
Thank you to SR! Thank you to so many people at SR that have helped me, inspired me and given me strength. Thank you God.
Lastly I wanna write for those that may just be beginning this journey. When I quit 6 months ago I only planned on stopping for a week. It was a Monday and I was going to go till Friday to see if I could make it. Then someone reached out to me and inspired me. I kept going. It has not been easy…but I haven’t looked back. You can do this. It is up to you.

Congrats G! 6 months is an awesome achievement; I just hit it a couple weeks ago and boy did it feel good. Nice job on the workout routine, and I think you're right about having something else to do when you give up the booze. We used to fill much of our time with drinking, so it's only logical that we'll have to find something else to do with that time when we stop.
