"Though there is no way of proving it, we believe that early in our
drinking careers most of us could have stopped drinking. But the
difficulty is that few alcoholics have enough desire to stop while
there is yet time."

My weekend drinking started with a 6-pack of Colt 45 malt liquor beer. After a while that wasn't enough and it would have to be the 6 pack of tall boys in order to drink more. After a while that wasn't enough and it was a switch to Seagram's VO.

That's where my drinking career started. I had no desire to stop and I'm not sure if I could have stopped at that time. Little did I know that this path would lead me into being a hopeless alcoholic.

I sometimes wonder if it's a good thing that I didn't stop. For if I had stopped early on, what if I picked up again later on in life? I believe I was an instant alcoholic from the first time that I picked up. So if there was an interval in my drinking before I hit rock bottom, it probably would have continued since I didn't suffer the consequences from drinking.
