Arrow Big Book Quote

*~*~*~*~*^ Big Book Quote ^*~*~*~*~*

"'There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which
is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in
everlasting ignorance that principle is contempt prior to
investigation.'"

Religion is for people who are afraid of going to hell. Spirituality is for people who have already been there. I figured I've already been to hell. The spirituality layed out in the Big Book met my needs perfectly in recovering from alcoholism. It ended up getting me closer to God than ever.

There's a step in AA that says, "Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others."
Big Book 1st edition, pg 59 How it works

I apologize my friend if you are offended.

Some will find solace and answers in organized religion ...some will find the same in a god of their own understanding....maybe not one found in churches.

In my experience...it is irrelevant which route........as long as the god of your understanding is your ultimate director..and you have total belief and trust.

no offence taken sir/miss.......

Why would you post such an awful statement?

Please don't do this again.

This is upsetting to me.
Are you ok keep? Whatever you do don't drink. Try to strive for a peace of mind. When I was sober in the first year I was like an open nerve. My sponsor told me to put a little sign next to my desk at work that said, "FAR OUT" (fear, anger, resentment out). Some days I would meditate on those words "fear, anger, resentment out," all day. Have a good day.

Hi Carol,

Thanks for this v. useful thread btw.

I can't quite understand this one and wonder if you could possibly elaborate on it's meaning.

Thanks,

Its at the back of the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book (the full page explains it in context)...it's one of my favourite quotes from the whole of the BB:-)

Keepcominback......hang in there

Hi Keep,

Sorry to hear you are struggling.......I understand why you got offended......no one likes their belief system undermined! I think what people found useful was not the comment about God and hell but rather how spiritual progress can deliver us and our loved ones from the hell that alcohol creates. Prayer for you hun.

Stay sober, chill out and take care,

Annette
