sad day
I went to my friend Keiths funeral today.
He was 36.
He had a long history of alcoholism and drug addiciton.
on the 15th of may he went missing and 2 days later his car was found next to the river spey.it is near my home and a wonderful salmon fishing river, also the fastest flowing river in britain.
His body was pulled out of it last tuesday.
there was about 200 folk there today.it was a good turn out.
he will be sadly missed.
whatever was going on in Keiths head he ALWAYS had a smile and took real joy in others happiness.
he dosnt have to live in torment anymore and i know God has him safe in His loving arms.
Keith just could not give himself to this programme.but i know and so do many others that this was not his fault.

Sorry for your loss, and God Bless Keith. There, but for the Grace of God go I. It made me think I should call some of my friends in the program that may or may not be struggling. I think you are right about him not suffering anymore cause he's in God's arms. That's kinda how I feel right now about you and me and every other alcoholic who tries to stay sober one day at a time. God Bless

I remember hearing someone share that his sponsor told him early on to "get a black suit, we're gonna go to a lot of funerals". I can remember thinking that's a little dramatic. And then I started going to funerals. We bury someone on average every 6 to 9 months it seems. An alcoholic death doesn't always look like what I think it will. The last guy our group lost couldn't stand being sober and he couldn't stand living drunk, and he couldn't blow his own brains out, so he did the next best thing, he held up a bank in the van that had his name on the side if it and pointed a toy handgun at police when they pulled him over. That's the result of untreated alcoholism.
