How can I help?

Hi, I am here to try to gt some insight into an addicts/recovering addicts head. My son died of a drug overdose in 2008 and age 27. My 22 year old daughter is a heroin addict. She has been in an in house rehab and was in a methodone clinic. She is currently not in the clinic, and is working to get back in. She had to leave for financial reasons, not for being dirty for heroin.

I don't know how to help her. Everything I read about methodone scares me as much as heroin. Right now whe is taking opiate pills to get her thru until she can get back into the clinic. I am so afraid she will start using again.

She hates herself for messing up at the clinic, and for ever starting to use drugs in the first place.

I don't know what I am looking for--maybe just a place to vent where I don't have to worry about someone judging my child. She's a good person--she's just made some really crappy choices in life.

Hi and Welcome,

I'm very sorry about the loss of your son.

There is definitely a variety of opinions on methodone treatment. Has your daughter talked to her dr about what she should do?

I hope that you will find support for yourself.

Welcome ready. I too am so sorry to hear of your son's passing. That must have been hell to go through. I'm glad you're reaching out for help & advice. I was no longer alone once I came here - and that helped take away my desperation.

I hope you'll check out the Friends & Family Forums here. There are many who have been through the same thing. You're not alone any more.

Hi readytorun

Welcome to SR.

As an alcoholic and addict myself I know that any desire for change had to come from within me - noone could have 'made' me change or bought me to the point of wanting to change any sooner than I did.

There are people here who understand what you're going through. Do check out the other forums people have mentioned as well.

Best wishes for you and your daughter
D
