Intense_cravings_while_sick?

Today is only day 22 (and not my first day 22 ).

I've been sick with a sinus/cold thingy for a few days and during this time, I've had intense cravings for alcohol. I didn't cave in, but I was curious if anyone else has felt this way while sick?

I think it may be that I'm looking for a quick fix to feel better and/or just the fact that I'm not feeling 100% triggers me b/c I don't feel normal and that was my M.O. for a very long time (not wanting to feel normal).

Hope this makes sense?

I think the fact that you are feeling under the weather, is probably what's causing the cravings.

Hopefully you will feel better soon.

Makes perfect sense, I know that for many years I sought and got instant gratification from a bottle, booze was the answer to every thing, of course we both know where drinking whether we are really sick or not leads.

Kjell this to shall pass!!! I really find that saying so annoying at times, but it has always proven to be true..... perhaps that is why it burns me up!!! LOL Hang tough, lots of liquids and rest, perhaps even seeing a doctor may help.

I have heard that quite a lot, but I always need to hear it one more time.

...and you're darn right it's gonna pass b/c I'm not gonna drink!

Very good observation. Hang in there. You can do it.

yep...2 big triggers for me are feeling ill and being snowed in

I've made it through both these things sober, but I still get that urge when i'm sick or snowed in.

Good time to hit SR extra hard

Being ill was a trigger for me for a long time too - not surprisingly as I self medicated with alcohol as a matter of course.

Keep the faith kjell

Believe it or not, I was wanting to smoke the last time I was sick as hell with pneumonia! I tried to but couldn't do it and it made me mad cause I wanted my nicotine fix!!

We really think and do some dumb stuff sometimes...

If it helps, being sober while you are sick, sure leads to a faster recovery.

Hope you feel better soon!

During the month of October, I caught the flu twice--both times while newly sober.

The first time, I picked up the bottle again--partly cravings, but partly because that's how you get rid of the flu... cultural tradition, perhaps? To be honest, it was almost automatic... "medicinal whiskey." I thought it would go away faster--did not work.

The second time, I managed to stay sober during the course of the flu. Not only did it leave the same way as before (just ran its own course--like flus tend to do), it actually went away faster. And with far less residual effects.

Just saying. Hope you get better soon, and whatever you do, don't drink. It's just not worth it.
