What?! Another newbie...!?
What?! Another newbie...!?
Yep. Hello.
I'm not going to get into the details of what led me to AA or this board, but let's just say a bottom of some sorts happened that got me kicked out of my home and living out of hotels for a while. Not an enjoyable experience, and to be honest the first thing that came to mind is "Well.. Getting the boot and having to move into a hotel, that's an excuse to grab the pills and vodka if I ever saw one!"
I went to my first AA meeting instead. Quite the terrifying experience. I stood outside that door for ten minutes before I went in... and found out it was the wrong place. I did run into a guy who was in the wrong place as well, and together we made it to my first meeting, which was across the street. Two churches across from each other.. who plans these things?!
Anyway, I'm on day 10 of sobriety.. tonight will be my 10th meeting. I've heard and read a lot of great stories that have been inspirational, and I wanted to say thank you to all of you for making this a great place to come and share and listen/read.
I'm shooting for a 90/90, but I'm not really worried about 80 days from now, I'm focusing on today.
Thanks for having me.

Welcome ClaretandBlue Great to have you. Funny story about the church mix up, that was just a little test to make sure you were ready to receive (I did let out a chuckle though hehe.... I have been in those situations too many times)
I look forward to working on my recovery with you.

Welcome and you will not be sorry for your choice. Alot of help on this site as well as AA. I also don't attend AA for personal reasons but I am totally for it. Just keep reading/posting and attending AA. One thing we like here is to here peoples experiences good and bad. Hopefully you will find out like alot of us have is how over rated drinking is. Again welcome and good luck.

Wow are you sure you aren't in my head ? That was me last August. Congratulations on not choosing the vodka. My only advise at this point is take the advise you get to get a sponser and WORK THE STEPS. For me meetings kept me sober for three months but it wasn't until I started actually doing the steps as they are outlined in the Big Book that I started to feel some serenity. I just passed 9 months and happier then I've been in years.

Glad to know you are heading into recovery
I consider beginning my Steps was the start
of my solid recovery. I hope you will find
that true for you as well....
